How People Will Be Using WordPress in the Future

I have spent a significant portion of my career as a WordPress educator. I have been writing exclusively about the software and the ecosystem for the last 14 years.

AI disruption and the common anxiety about the future of work in a post-AI world have made me think a lot about my job and the future of the industry.

  • If people can just ask an AI to quickly code a website with all the features they need, would they still be using WordPress?
  • Would they still be buying add-ons, tools, and services when they can just tell an AI to do all that?
  • What will I be selling, writing, or educating people about in the future?

To be honest, I don’t have satisfying answers for any of these questions.

Like most people, I am watching where this change leads and trying to adapt as things move forward.

If people will be using AI to build websites, I am one of those people, and I will be doing the same.

If WordPress continues to be the leading platform, surely people will be using it differently. And most definitely, they will be using it inside their AI platforms.

For instance, I am using WPVibe myself, an MCP for managing this website.

With my job, I don’t have time to sit down and write code or set up themes and plugins. I just connected this site to WPVibe and told it to adjust the design, change the colors, compare the fonts, switch to a classic theme, and so on.

I believe this is how people will be using WordPress.

In fact, it is already happening. Around 30K websites use WPVibe without much marketing, and they are a very small team.

WordPress will be around for one main reason. AIs love open source software.

They can read the source code, and they have the rights to use it and build things.

At the moment, it feels like static sites are making a comeback. However, anyone who starts a static site soon begins looking for an easier way to manage it, add new features, and grow their business.

WordPress then becomes the platform of choice.

This is how most users land on it. They try other things first, then discover WordPress as the full package.

WordPress announced connectors recently, and there is a lot more in the pipeline.

Other people and companies in the WordPress space are building cool things around AI.

I mentioned WPVibe already, but there are others like:

  • AI Engine. It is an AI assistant that lives in your WordPress admin dashboard. I am a huge fan of the developer Jordy Meow. He has an impressive track record with tons of really cool plugins.
  • AI Puffer. Similar to AI Engine, it works inside the WordPress dashboard, and you bring your own API keys. I don’t like that they keep changing the plugin name.
  • Royal MCP. Similar to WPVibe, you connect the MCP server to your WordPress site.

Not to mention, every other plugin is bringing its own AI features. SEO plugins are letting AI manage your SEO.

Page builders are adding AI chatbots to design landing pages. The list goes on.

As a marketer in the WordPress industry, I have so much to look forward to. I just hope I can keep up and continue doing what I love.
